They are often rented for parties several days a week. With so much use, inflatables are bound to become damaged from time to time. Some common problems are relatively easy to fix, but in some cases it may be necessary to invest in a new commercial inflatable.
How to Fix a Tear in a Commercial Inflatable
If there is a relatively small tear in the PVC, you can repair it yourself. You will need a PVC patch cut in a piece larger than the hole or tear. The patch should have rounded edges so it will not peel. Clean the area first with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely. Put glue on the back of the patch and press it over the hole or tear. Wait at least two hours before inflating the bounce house. Be sure to use a vinyl repair kit, not a bicycle repair kit made for rubber.
If an area where there is stitching is torn, you can repair it. Create a patch large enough to fit over the tear with an extra inch all around. Use a needle and thread to sew the patch on both sides. Use double or quadruple stitching. Make sure the area is clean and dry before you sew on the patch.
When to Replace a Commercial Inflatable
Even though inflatables are designed to last a long time and stand up to a lot of use, all of that wear and tear can take a toll. If you tried these methods and the patch didn’t hold, or if your inflatable has several areas that have been damaged, it may be time to invest in a new one. You should plan on replacing your inflatables from time to time and leave room for that in your company’s budget.
